Hi all! Thought we’d give you a peek at our press release!

Marilyn Monroe saved; JFK plot foiled? What She Knew Published by Gator Creek Artists Entertainment

Authors K. R. Hughes and T. L. Burns bring history, suspense and a cast of charismatic characters together as Peter Lawford and Bobby Kennedy rescue the very much alive Marilyn so they can use her knowledge to foil the assassination of JFK.

March 23, 2012 – Atlanta, GA – Authors K. R. Hughes and T. L. Burns announced today the release of What She Knew, published by Gator Creek Artists Entertainment, LLC. The authors’ newest fiction is the fast paced tale of a body double used in Marilyn’s place the night of her supposed suicide and the scramble of Peter Lawford and Bobby Kennedy to find out what she really knew about the mob, JFK’s inner political circle and the one evil presence who was bent on having the president moved “out of the way.”

What if Marilyn Monroe had actually lived to tell her tales of vital government secrets and of the covert plot to kill the president? Could she have changed the course of history? Would Peter Lawford and Bobby Kennedy be able to piece together enough information to foil the assassination plot?

Fascinating questions; What She Knew a fascinating new novel.

What She Knew is available on-line through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Outskirts Press, and Gator Creek Artists Entertainment:

And the Pulitzer Prize goes to…..

WOW! What a whirlwind of excitement we are finding ourselves in! Our crazy schedule is filling up quickly!! We have many book signings in the very near future (April and May are both full!) for “What She Knew,” several radio interviews (more info coming) and the best one of all the AMAZON PARTY on April 12th, from 8:00 – 10:00 pm EST!! And who doesn’t love a good party? Well, truth be told, we tend to view life as one big party! What’s the point of living life if you don’t live it to its fullest? After all, it was Marilyn Monroe who said “You never know what life is like, until you have lived it.” So true, so live your life, and eat your cake too.

Yesterday, K.R. and I talked about the wonderful Koda Conference we had just attended and that we felt as though we were saturated sponges. What a wealth of information gleaned from that one event. We are still strategizing how to implement at least half of what we learned over the next few weeks. That’s probably a bit ambitious, but hey, it’s us!

Another great aspect of the Koda Conference was meeting other authors. We met authors from around the world, such as Ireland, England and Canada. Some have been at this writing thing for twenty plus years, while others are just starting. All of them have great stories to share and we wanted to take a minute and introduce you to them.

Jane Carroll – “Bertha Size Your Life” Bertha-Size Your Life! is a fast read, a must read, that leaves the reader feeling uplifted and positive. There is an introspective infusion incorporated into each chapter that leaves you with the realization that Bertha’s life experiences parallel our own much of the time. Each chapter is a joyous encounter in the pursuit of life. Available at

Cathy Brockman – “Luke’s Dragon” Luke awakes to find that his dreams literally have come true in the form of his favorite stuffed toy Gage, the dragon who has followed him home from his journey to Dreamworld. Debra Shiveley Welch – “Cedar Woman” Debra’s pen was dipped in the essence of life to write this amazing book. Once again her talent rises to the challenge and we meet not just a person but a people. Through narrative we experience the highs and lows in the account of Cedar Woman and dwell within the unfolding story. We travel through the pages on a journey through time and circumstance, from the sweat lodge to the edge of the world and beyond; from powwow, to opening the first Central Ohio Native American restaurant. Truly a great work concerning a great nation and one small part of it in particular. Available at

Martin Crosbie – “My Temporary Life” Heroes are not born. They’re made. Malcolm Wilson’s strength was forged during harsh childhood days—ugly days when he faced down schoolyard bullies and endured the neglect of a promiscuous mother. Alivia Anders – “Illumine” For the past five months Essallie Hanley has been trying to forget about the frightening murder of her boyfriend. Haunted by vivid nightmares and hallucinations of the event she does anything she can to pretend she’s like every other normal girl in High School. Only Essallie is far from normal. Able to conjure blue fire and a shimmering silhouette of wings from her body, she seeks the only known solace left to her name; her first home in Belfast, Maine. But she soon realizes that her return home is only the beginning of a long and twisted road taking her as far from her humanity as possible, with Kayden, the demon originally summoned to slaughter her, leading the way. Unable to touch her but oddly curious, he joins Essallie in her search to find out just what she is. But neither of them were prepared for the secrets they’ve begun to unravel, secrets that will change Essallie and everyone around her forever. Available at

Siggy Buckley – “Next Time Lucky” Cherie, a professional matchmaker from Dublin, Ireland, faces the ultimate challenge when she tries to find a soul mate for herself. She surfs the risky waves of the Internet and flies around the world to adventures, disappointments and not a few surprises. Chat-rooms prove to be intoxicating, and Cherie feels like in a kid in a candy store. Among the Lotharios she encounters are recycled bachelors, breezy islands of ego, fly-by-nights, birds of paradise, commitment phobics, and the odd sex maniac. She learns the hard way that it’s easy come, uneasy go at this smorgasboard of cyber-dreamboats. Available at

Lorraine Nelson – “A Cowgirl’s Pride” Leah Manning grew up among so many domineering, protective males that it left her frustrated, longing for a different life. Her family couldn’t understand that she needed to dance. Unknowingly, she’d embroiled herself in a deadly game from which there seemed no way out. Now she was home. Would they welcome her back? What if trouble followed? Most importantly, did Cal still work the ranch? Brian Calhoun, Cal to his friends, hated Leah when she’d left, but hated himself even more for not going after her. Whew! So many great new reads! Be sure and check out each of these authors websites or Facebook pages. You’ll see what other great books they have available and learn a bit about them.

Have a wonderful evening! Love from two slightly skewed authors, K.R. and T.L. 🙂

Saturated Sponges

K.R. and I just finished attending the Koda Conference. Two great days of learning the fine art of marketing, social networking, public speaking, and author development. Kim Emerson, who is MasterKoda, put together one of the best conferences for authors we have ever attended. She will be doing this again in the Fall, and we highly recommend you make plans to attend. You can learn all about her services at

At this conference, we heard from some great presenters such as:

Ginger Marks on the importance of packaging and having a great book cover (www.DocUmeantPublishi

Rebbekah White with great tips on websites and blogs that creat traffic (

Carol Deckert on the importance of networking (

Felicia Slattery on how to be successful at public speaking (

Debra Shively Welch on the importance of editing your work (debra.s.welch)

Tasha Turner on building mutually beneficial relationships in the writing world (

Catrina Taylor who gave us great tips on how to format an ebook (

DeAnna Troupe is the go-to lady for all things Twitter (deannatroupe)

Besides all of these professionals sharing their success secrets with us, we also had a wonderful Q & A time with two very successful authors, Martin Crosbie and C.J.West. Their recent success on was just mind-boggling. Look them up on Facebook to learn more.

Todd Brown gave us some great tips on how to prepare yourself for the book review. He is a book reviewer himself, and you can find him on Facebook at Brutally Honest Reviews (it sounds scary, but he is just completely honest.)

Also, Melissa Neil from had some wonderful tips on book reviews too. Buggie4book is a group of about eight reviewers who feel it is important to partner with the author, working together to make the best product possible.

Wow! Just reviewing the who’s who from the conference makes us understand why we feel like such saturated sponges! K.R. and I both feel that we have gained some very valuable information that we are now going to implement in our business. And, as most of you know, that business is being an author. As “What She Knew” has just been published, we feel we are now equipped with the some of the best tools of the author trade.

Two things are coming up very quickly. The first is a blog talk radio interview on April 5 with Rebbekah White!! Woo Hoo!! Yes, she was one of the presenters from the conference. We are so excited. As we get closer, we will be giving you all the details so you can join us that afternoon at 1:00 p.m. EST.

The other very exciting event is our own Amazon Party! Woo Hoo!! So on April 12, from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. EST, don your party hats and blow your kazoos because we will be debuting our new novel “What She Knew.” We will have trivia and some wonderful giveaways. Also, some great authors will be joining us with some gifts of their own. More details on this in the days to come! We are so excited and so honored to be sharing this journey with YOU!!

They’re here!

OH MY GOSH! They are here! They are! Yes, they are! They are really here!! Woo Hoo!! Jumping up and down with joy!! Oh, what’s here you ask? The BOOKS!! Both the hard cover and the soft cover!! They look amazing too!!! The print quality is excellent!

The only down side is that K.R. is still 1200 miles away and not here to jump up and down with me!! Figures. Oh, well, that’s life (starts to sing the old Frank Sinatra tune). At least we have Skype. It would have killed both of us if I had to open them without her at least being able to watch! And, yes, I had to open them. These are our author copies. The first run off of the printer. These are the ones we look over with a fine-tooth comb.

Guess what? The fine-tooth comb didn’t find anything! YAY! So very exciting. We are now officially published! Now, it’s on to a different kind of hard work: the book signing tour, interviews and speaking engagements. While our marketing peeps market (lol) we rove around the country peddling our wares! Oh, and while we are on the road, get the sequel finished!

Thank you everyone, all who have been following our journey. Not that it’s over, goodness no. We’ve only completed this leg of the journey. However, we do love and appreciate all of you so very much. K.R. and I are very blessed, and we know it.

And the journey continues…

Hi all!

So much has been going on these last few days. We feel like we are in a whirlwind of activity. Thankfully, we are not the only ones who are actively working on this project!! We thought we would take a moment and fill you in on the latest.

First we learned that our author books were ready. So very exciting let us just say!! We ordered them right away and are now anxiously awaiting their arrival!! After we receive them, if all is right with the world and the book, we will then be able to shout from the roof tops “Publish!” Oh, and right after the shout-out, we run to the computer and send the electronic notice to the publisher to publish.

Second we were informed that our Press Release had been prepared. Woo Hoo!! Sounds so official, doesn’t it? With a little word-smithing from us, it is now ready to release. Wow, it’s almost time to tell the masses about us and the book!! (We’re not nervous, why do you ask? Should we be? Oh, my, we should be, shouldn’t we? Well, you’ve done it now. We are VERY nervous! Deep breaths…..)

Third our wonderful, talented agent, Janet Espy, has been diligently working on our book signing tour amongst other things for the book. We already have four large ones in Atlanta set-up and then we head to our home state of Texas, Amarillo to be exact. There, over the course of two weeks, we will have signings in Amarillo and neighboring city’s; then it’s off to New Mexico and Oklahoma. We’re already feeling the road beneath our tushies!! (Hopefully, by now the jitters will have subsided.)

And let’s not forget the on-line Amazon Party preparations. So much to do by the first part of April. Thank the Lord for Kim Emerson and MasterKoda. MasterKoda is taking care of everything for the online party. If you need book promotion services, MasterKoda is the one to talk too. Trust us, this isn’t our first rodeo!!

Wow, and all of this in the span of about five days. Crazy good fun! Over this next week, we will be busy preparing ourselves for the MasterKoda Conference (our book is one of the featured books at the conference.) We are also working on several blog interviews; as well as, a few radio and TV interviews. And, of course, every day is ‘promote and connect day.’ With that said, we just have to take a minute and thank Tasha Turner! Tasha is a one-on-one social coach and an author. She understands this crazy world we writers live in! From early on in our journey, Tasha has always taken the time to not only encourage us, but give us sound advice and guidance. Like MasterKoda, we highly recommend Tasha Turner Coaching for all your social media needs. For your convenience, we have included their links at the bottom of this blog.

On a personal note, we have two upcoming graduations that we are excited about. T.L.’s son is graduating from college and K.R.’s niece is graduating from High School. Needless to say, April and May are going to be busy months for us. Oh, I forgot to mention we are doing all of the above while finishing the sequel to ‘What She Knew.’ Our agent wants the sequel finished by the end of May. Whew! It’s a good thing we love abundant living!

That’s all for now. Thanks for following our journey.

Blessings, K.R. and T.L.

And now for something completely different!! (read in Monty Pythonease)

T.L. here and I just wanted to share something fun with everyone. Do you realize that we writers of the English language are a crazed lot? Let’s take a minute, and look at what we can do with some of our ‘multi-purpose’ words!

1) The bandage was wound around the wound.

2) The farm was used to produce produce.

3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

4) We must polish the Polish furniture..

5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.

6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert..

7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.

9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10) I did not object to the object.

11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

13) They were too close to the door to close it.

14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.

18) Upon seeing the tear in the painting of Marilyn Monroe, I shed a tear.

19) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

And then there are things like this: There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren’t invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat. Crazy, I know.

We who have grown up with it, take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce and hammers don’t ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn’t the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

Let’s face it – the English language is demented! Why on earth did we do this to ourselves? Oh, yes, I know, it happened a long, long time ago. Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. I mean really, in what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

It is very evident that English was invented by people, not computers. It reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. Most of the above are examples I have collected through the years (emails, letters, school projects, etc.) However, as writing is who most of us are, I just had to share the paradox that is our English language.

Here’s hoping that your present presents you with a wonderful present at the end of this wonderful day!

Challenunities abound!!

Good Day Everyone! As we journey through life, all of us are presented with both challenges and opportunities. Usually, at the same time. So, K.R. and I like to say, challenunities. It seems more fun when facing one of these mixed blessings to use words we’ve made up. Also, combining takes the sting out of the challenges and puts realism back into the opportunities. In other words, it makes the challenge less intimidating and the opportunity less ‘pie in the skyish’.

On this journey of ours, we have met many wonderful people. And in one such place, MasterKoda, we have had the privilege of getting to know some of these wonderful people better than we might, even if we lived next door to one another! Cathy Brockman, author of ‘Luke’s Dragon’; Karen Magill, author of ‘The Bond, A Paranormal Love Story’ and ‘Let Us Play, A Rock ‘N Roll Love Story’; Sian Young, author and owner of Sian’s Graphics and Banners; Danny Kemp, author of ‘The Desolate Garden’; Denise Kennedy, author of ‘I Wish I Were’; Serena Gibson, founder and owner of Serena Sweet-Aromas; and Arlene O’Neil author of ‘Broken Spokes’ are just a few such persons we have had the honor to get to know. There are so many more we could name!!

It seems the more we learn about each other, the more our lives are all really the same. They are all wonderful examples of challenunities. As a wife/husband, mom/dad, entrepreneur, author, day-job holder, chief chore-doer, etc. we all face many of the same challenunities: stopped up drains, deadlines, chronic illnesses, moving, job loss/new job, car troubles, finishing a project/starting a project, just to name a few. And what we’ve learned is that it’s how we approach and view these challenunities that matters. Our approach will make the difference between success or failure; coming thru or staying trapped; and living with grace or living with defeat.

The friends we have made on MasterKoda have shown us how to live with grace and thrive! We encourage all of you to check out a few these people and learn their stories first hand. You will be surprised what they have not only lived through with grace but have also thrived through with success.

Here is how you can read about each one:
