It’s that time again – the time to CELEBRATE!
Celebrate what? America’s Independence from England (no offense to our friends across the pond). We get to enjoy FREEDOM because our forefathers, great-great-great grandfathers, great-great grandfathers and grandmothers, great grands, husbands, wives, sisters, uncles, brothers, aunts, cousins and finally our sons and daughters serve in the military to protect our rights.
Our stars and stripes were hard won. Forever in peace may she wave…
We have the right to complain and moan about what is wrong in our lives because of the sacrifices our families have made for this wonderful country. GOD BLESS AMERICA.
So now our physical and spiritual person is protected but what about our imagination? It’s a fact that we read for information about 90% of the time. REALLY? Mostly for news, weather or job-related research. We don’t take the time to nurture our imaginations as we should.
Letting our imaginations soar into a great fictional read is essential to keeping our brains sharp. Reading allows the reader to visualize what the author is saying in a unique way that only the reader understands. When we read, the well written story will build a movie in our heads that will stay there more vividly than any movie could ever do. Not that movies are bad, but reading, for the sheer joy of allowing your imagination to take full reign, creates a visual you can return to over and over.
So this 4th of July, while you’re out barbequing with your family and enjoying the fireworks display, take along a good book, find a shade tree and plop down under it for a while and let your imagination run wild. Or better yet, read to the little ones.
I challenge you, this week to pick up a book you’ve never read or perhaps an old friend and read, read, read. Set an example for the next generations show them how much can be gained from reading and show them how to set their imaginations free as well.
God Bless you all and have a safe and happy holiday.
