Dominique is our guest this week. We’ll just step aside and let her tell her story her own way……
Today I’ve been told by the powers-that-be that I have to write a normal blog post. (Thanks Tasha!) Now, I’ve been unsure about what to write whenever I’m doing these ‘normal’ posts because let’s face it. Who on this earth could consider themselves to be normal? Actually, to put it a different way, how many writers can say they are normal?
We are all crazy people, who construct intricate worlds in our minds. We play about with characters, we immortalise our friends, family and occasionally our enemies in words though under different names. We even torture our characters, making their lives worse and why? Because we have stories to tell. Our fingers itch to pound the keys or even grip the pencil. Some of us even dictate our stories and flesh them out later.
We change and twist our dreams and characters, we cry and laugh over things we have written and more importantly we work towards something that will ultimately be read by people who we hope and plead will love us, worship us and raise us up as gods and buy any other books we write. We spend hours working on our ‘craft’ ignoring the misgivings of friends and family, the doubts of our minds and then…the finished product.
But oh wait! That’s not it! It’s a horrible, horrible process after the book is finished, after we’ve wiped the sweat from our head and groaned in relief. We then have to edit, edit and guess what, edit again! We have to cut great big chunks we then have to re-add in with ctrl z. We prune everything down to the barest branches and build it back up again.
Then…it’s sending it off to beta readers, editors, agents and publishers. However…that process will be something for a different blog post.
Now I have a few questions to ask you.
What processes have you been through with writing?
How often have you stopped yourself from snapping at those who don’t understand why you write?
When and where did you write yourself into your own books, if you do?
Dominique Goodall is the author of the soon to be released Echoes of Winter, book one in the “Seasons of the Wolf” series and a self-confessed wolf addict. She has currently been published in two anthologies by Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing and is currently working on getting herself better known by sending in manuscripts for as many different anthologies as she possibly can.
As much as she loves to admit it, she never will be able to count her wolf stuff- there’s nothing left for her to be truly able to collect without her own home.
