KD Emerson and Digitus 233!

Hi everyone!  What a great day.  We have the pleasure of having one of our all time favorite people here with us!!  K.D. Emerson!!  She is such a great friend, author and publisher!  How many authors do you know that can honestly say they love their publisher?  Well, we can.

kim emerson

It’s our pleasure to honor her today.  It happens to be WOW Wednesday and Ms. Emerson’s birthday!  Woot!!  Without further interruption, let’s meet K.D. Emerson the Author:

Now I (T.L.) have known Kim for the better part of 25 years!!  So I thought it would be fun to share some weird and wacky things I have discovered about her over the years….I am posting this pop quiz to see if any of you can guess the three things on this list that K.D. Emerson has NOT done in her life. I’m sure you will agree the things left on the list equal a pretty interesting life.

Here is a list of possible facts about K.D. Emerson. What three things are false?

1. Ridden a wild horse

We asked K.D. Emerson if she could go back in time to when she was seven years old, what wisdom or advice would she pass on to herself?

Don’t you dare put that pen down! No matter what anyone says, no matter how impractical it might seem, don’t put the pen down because when you get older there will be people that love your style and your writing will make a difference in their lives.

Kim, please finish this statement for us:  My favorite character from Digitus 233 is _________. How did you come up with that character?

All my characters are created from the dark corners of my mind with a little snippet of their personality inspired by a real person. So no matter whom your favorite character is in one of my books you will know there is someone real hidden in there somewhere. It’s up to the reader to figure out what that snippet is.

One thing we have been dying to ask, why did you end Digitus 233 with such a horrifying cliff hanger? It made me want to scream! I sat and thought about possibilities for a long time after finishing the novel. Well, you just hit the answer to your own question right on the head. I wanted my readers to scream out and then I wanted them to use their own imagination to come up with their own possible ending. In book two I will share my conclusion with them and then we can compare how close we came in to having the same resolution.

What is a short synopsis for Digitus 233?

A group of teens are caught in a web of deceit. Will they break free of the world’s controlling power or are they doomed to die trying?

Please Welcome Sarah Wallace!

S.L. Wallace in hat resized

Hi everyone! Sarah Wallace is here with us today to promote her latest book, Dante’s Day Off.  This adult, short story is fraught with controversy.  Our hero, Dante Marando, understands that the human body is fragile. With recent medical advances, he’s certain scientists will soon be able to keep healthy people alive for longer stretches of time, and he is determined to be a part of history in the making.  You see, in early July 2013, the following news article made headlines: “Possibility of First Head Transplant Fraught with Ethical and Medical Dilemmas.” Are head transplants really in our near future, and what will that mean for mankind? Is Dante interested in helping mankind thrive, or is he only looking out for himself?  Find out the answers to these questions in Dante’s Day Off.

Sarah, welcome!!

Thanks for having me.

We know you don’t have much time, so we’ll keep it short.  Can you share with us how you began your fiction writing journey?

I’ve always been a fan of the written word, and I have the nature of a storyteller. If storytelling is a learned behavior, then I most certainly learned it sitting around the dinner table, especially when my paternal grandmother was present. If, however, storytelling is in my genes, then I most certainly inherited it from my paternal grandmother. As for writing down fictional stories with the intent of publication, that was sparked by a vivid dream in early 2011. I began by writing down everything I could remember about my dream: names, places, descriptions, feelings, everything. Then I wrote the history of my main characters. After that, I began writing the story. Imagine my surprise, when a month later, the governor of my state began busting public unions. I attended a meeting and heard a disturbing statistic about the low number of wealthy people and how much money they had compared to everyone else. I remember thinking, “Oh my God, I’m living in my novel!” After that, I couldn’t stop writing, and furthermore, I felt my story needed to be heard. Even though my stories are all fictional, to date, they all contain elements of truth.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  We know you have to run, there is just so much to get done when you release a new book.  For our readers, here are a few ways to connect with Sarah and to get this awesome book:

Vickie Johnstone is in the house!

Vickie Johnstone

Hi everyone! We have another treat today! Vickie Johnstone is once again with us. Woot!!  For those who don’t remember, or are new followers, Vickie lives in London, UK.  We are so jealous!  We need a road trip!  Anyway, Vickie works as a freelance layout sub-editor on magazines and as an editor on indie books. She also has a thing about fluffy cats and loves reading, writing, films, the sea, rock music, art, nature, Milky Bars, Baileys and travelling!  Whew, we’re tired just listing it all, lol!!  Vickie says that if sleeping was an Olympic sport, she’d be a contender.

Vickie has self-published fourteen books. Wow is right!!  They are: Kaleidoscope (poetry); Travelling Light (poetry); Life’s Rhythms (haiku); 3 Heads and a Tail (comedy romance); Kiwi in Cat City (magical cat series for middle grade readers); Kiwi and the Missing Magic; Kiwi and the Living Nightmare; Kiwi and the Serpent of the Isle; Kiwi in the Realm of Ra; Kiwi’s Christmas Tail; Day of the Living Pizza and Day of the Pesky Shadow (both are a comedy detective series for middle grade readers,) The Sea Inside (strong female character/fantasy) and just a few days ago, I Dream of Zombies.  This latest publication is her first horror book and it too has a strong female lead.

~~Here’s the description from Amazon:

A zombie novel set in London over six weeks in 2013, with a strong female lead

It starts with a dream and then the nightmare takes over.

It all begins on a summer’s day with the media reporting with some
hilarity that people are dreaming of the dead coming to life, but those who have
dreamt them are convinced they are a warning of things to come. Marla takes it
all with a pinch of salt until she experiences the nightmares herself. Cue
paranoia and disbelief until reality shows its new face.

All over London there are incidences of people becoming sick and aggressive. As the attacks
mount, the media is forced to take the matter seriously, but what is causing it?
Is it a virus, and is it natural or man-made, and is the government responsible?

Marla, her sister, Ellen, and friend Tommy find themselves fighting for
their survival as their sense of reality is smashed. Will the army and police
maintain control or will the country find itself in lock down, isolated from the
outside world?

~~Here’s a snippet from her latest book, I Dream of Zombies – the dream…

A sickening sense of dread ravages him as fear drifts over the surface of his skin like fingers, icy cold and unrelenting. He turns again and sprints towards the exit, his pace becoming increasingly slower as if something is pushing him back. Yet still he finds himself in the exact same position, his feet rooted to the spot, his arms sweeping, useless. His hair blows in the breath that the creature now turns on him, sickening in its putrid scent of death and putrefaction.

“There is not a word he can think of to describe this thing in front of him. Fear creeps, regardless. Twisting, crawling, the maggots swarm across its bloodied face as it opens its mouth wider. Something rips. The yawn seems to swallow him whole into this darkness of despair as a jagged, ripping pain overwhelms him; the sharp teeth chafing, gnawing at his neck, seeking to pierce the jugular vein within. From far off in the distance comes the ripple of laughter.

~~Oh, wow!  How scary!!  Now we know why Stewart Bint says, “Good character development, good descriptions…and friggin’ scary”  Vickie, it’s been so awesome having you with us!!  You are always a joy to have!

5 Stars for Home Wrecker II!!!

Home Wrecker II

Home Wrecker II

Hi everyone!

We wanted to share with you our review of Brenda Perlin’s latest novel “Home Wrecker II” and boy, what a read it is!  Here’s the synopsis from Amazon:

Bo and Brooklyn’s relationship is tested while Bo’s soon-to-be-ex wife continues to try to hold on for dear life. Will Bo’s ongoing divorce battle ever come to an end or will she be able to break them up?
“Brooklyn Rosen had high moral principles and was raised properly. Married for over fifteen years, those standards went out the window along with her fidelity when she met Bo. After becoming a self-proclaimed “Home Wrecker” Brooklyn left behind her marital home, along with the damage caused by her emotional wrecking ball. But the whispered remarks followed.
In “Home Wrecker: The Brooklyn Chronicles” we learn what shaped Brooklyn, the trials of an unhappy marriage and a deep abiding love that would not be denied. We meet a troubled, spiteful wife, who does not want to become an “ex”.
Will Brooklyn and Bo survive, or will all be lost to a bitter woman?”

Here’e the 5 Star review we gave it!!

I really loved Home Wrecker I and could not wait to read II. Home Wrecker I was
raw, honest, and emotionally gripping and Home Wrecker II, if possible, was even
more so. Both books explore tough issues. Brooklyn’s real self is laid bare for
all of us to see. She shares her past, her motivations, and her own guilt with a
candidness that I can but admire. The moral dilemma presented here is something
many have faced.

Brooklyn was raised to live a life of integrity, and had
endeavored to do so all her life. Never did she for one minute think she would
ever be `the other woman.’ It wasn’t in her psyche. She wasn’t a cheater, a Home

Brooklyn never planned to get a divorce, hurting those she loved
and sacrificing relationships in the process. But something changed in her when
she struggled with a near fatal illness. Life was short, why live on eggshells
and just exist? Why be afraid and unhappy? She never thought she would exchange
security for the unknown either. But sometimes, security comes at too high a
price. And for Brooklyn, this was exactly the case. Home Wrecker II delves
deeper into the whys, showing the reader just how shattered her marriage really

For me, loving Bo and Brooklyn was easy. I found myself rooting for
them. They both seemed to be paired with not only the wrong people, but to ones
that were harming them to their very core. Brooklyn was married to a angry,
controlling man and Bo was married to a very unstable, selfish woman. As they
try and start a new life together, the all consuming trial in their lives is
Bo’s ex, Ruth. Her emails and calls to him only go to show a very embittered
woman who is quickly losing her grip on reality.

This story serves to
remind us that there are two sides to every situation. For Brooklyn, she
continues to examine her motives and her actions; that after living through much
heartache and oppression, she finally is able to stand up for herself. She is
now in charge of herself as a person. She fully accepts her own actions, both
good and bad, and is working on forgiving herself. I look forward to the next
book and to seeing the growth that both of them go through.

You will love these books!  They will make you question and think; angry one moment and happy the next; crying over the loss and rejoicing over the gain.

Please help us welcome, Nadia Kilrick!!

stack of books

Hi everyone!

We have the honor of having a great friend and an amazing author with us!  Nadia Kilrick has been writing since she was a little girl and it shows in her books. Nadia has a talent for making storytelling seemless and very enjoyable for the reader. We read her first book Ziggy Returns over a month ago and found it to be a very fun read. Here’s a little bit about Nadia we thought you might want to know about Nadia.

Nadia Kilrick is a Florida native who finds tranquility in the simple life of the Deep South. She believes there is no better place to contemplate life’s journey than sitting beside a slow moving creek shaded by mighty moss-draped oaks. It’s there that dreams burst free from within the chasms of the human heart.

Nadia has written fiction since childhood. The busyness of life and raising a family slowed the progress of her writing for two decades. When her children moved away, she began writing articles for the web. Her passion for fiction writing quietly stirred while writing articles related to gardening, family, self-sufficiency and do-it-yourself projects. Now she writes fiction full time. Thriller, suspense/mystery and paranormal are her favorite genres to write. When reading, she reaches for psychological thrillers, true crime, mystery/suspense, horror, paranormal, western and historical fiction.

Nadia is pleased to announce her debut short story, “Ziggy Returns: A Short Tale”, has been published by Master Koda Select Publishing and is now available on Kilrick’s “Rough Hewn: People of Kilmservy Village”, the first book in her psychological thriller trilogy, will release with MKSP in September 2013.

Here’s a little something about her book:

Minna Fuller finds herself in an odd predicament when her moonshine guzzling husband carelessly causes an accident that changes both their lives. Though relieved to have her life back, she would never have wished death on her husband. Being a man who always had to have the last word, Ziggy returns to their home to instruct her on how she should live the remainder of her life by offering a suggestion she finds far-reaching, even for him. Will Minna be able to rid her home of her husband’s ghost and finally get on with her life? Will she accept his blessing and set onto the path he envisions her taking or will she ignore him and the advice from her friends?

Remorse and forgiveness sometimes come too late. Ziggy has to have the last word even if it means going home after death. Will Minna ever free herself from her husband’s ghost?

You will love this story, make sure and pick it up for yourself.
